Fire breaks out at block of flats in Plaistow, east London

A fire has broken out at a block of flats in Plaistow, east London, with around 30 people evacuated.

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters responded to the blaze on Queens Road West.

People have been advised to avoid the area and traffic is being affected as crews remain on the scene, London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

The blaze was in a 10th-floor flat in a block of 15 storeys, LFB said.

The flat's interior and balcony were destroyed, while balconies on the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th floors were also heavily damaged.

"Three men left the flat before the brigade arrived, and are being treated on scene by the London Ambulance Service," LFB said.

"The brigade's control officers took over 30 calls reporting the fire, with the first received at 8.02am.

"Crews were able to bring the fire under control by 9.03am, with firefighters from East Ham, Plaistow, Stratford and surrounding fire stations at the scene."
