VOLUNTEERING AT STOKE PRIDE
Ever wondered what volunteers get
out of giving up their time?
Stoke Pride volunteer Mouse looks back at last years event....
It had been a very rewarding day. Long, but very rewarding!
And I was glad I had done it and stuck it out right until the end when I helped to take down the volunteers Gezebo.
My name is Mouse by the way and when they asked for people to volunteer for Stoke Pride I had no idea how I would be able to help but decided to ask anyway.
When Sean said I would be assisting him I was really pleased!
My job was to do all the running of messages and make sure that the other volunteers had water to drink as well as something to eat which was appreciated on such a hot day and also to make sure they got their rest breaks.
I also helped put some of the signs up showing people where the toilets were and I went round selling water proof macs when we had a sudden down pour towards the end of the day.
The best part was meeting friends old and new who stopped me for a Hello and a chat.
All in all I found the whole experience very rewarding and am looking forward to doing it again this year. So if you ever thought about volunteering don`t be afraid to ask and have a go! You will not regret it!
Mouse.
