Seven people including children have been taken to hospital after a land train tipped over at a holiday park in Cornwall.

The Looe Land Train company - which runs tours in the coastal region - said it was involved in an accident while carrying passengers at around 7pm on Wednesday.

During an event at Tregoad Holiday Park in St Martin, the carriage of the land train tipped over and "a number of its passengers have been injured", the firm said.

A land train is a vehicle that can drive on roads and looks like a train.

Devon and Cornwall Police said seven people, including three children, were taken to Derriford Hospital for assessment and treatment.

It added: "None of the injuries are considered to be life changing or life threatening."

Another 11 people were discharged at the scene with either minor or no injuries.

Looe Land Train initially said it thought that 10 people were being treated at local hospitals.

Police were called to reports of a collision involving a Land Rover Defender towing a carriage with passengers in the caravan park at around 6.55pm.

The land train company said its events for the rest of the half-term break have been cancelled following the incident.

It added: "We will be in contact directly with anyone who has reserved, in order to make a full refund.

"As a family business, we are devastated by (the) accident and our thoughts are with all of those injured or impacted."

Cornwall Live reported the cancelled events included the Ghost Train and Looe's Trick or Treat for Halloween.
