Paige Kennedy
Pronouns: They / Them
Paige Kennedy is an ALT POP and Nonbinary artist and joins us to chat about their brand new single and video ‘Lingerie Model’ - an alt-pop banger, inspired by everything from post-punk, to 00’s electro pop, tied together by Kennedy’s distinctive wonky production. The new single is inspired by hostile encounters in women’s toilets and explores the irony of having a cis female body, but being read as male.
On the new single Kennedy shares: “I wrote a few fruitless permutations of songs about TERF bathroom politics, but it didn’t feel like my story to tell, not being a trans woman. ‘Lingerie Model’ emerged once I altered the tone, making it comical, rather than getting bogged down in fact. I wrote a game changing chorus, while messing around with beats, with the lyrics ‘microwave oven’. Eventually, I landed on ‘lingerie model’ instead and realised that it was a perfect fit for my bathroom politics concept. Previously, I’ve written about feeling a sense of loss over going through puberty on ‘He Is’ so it felt great to write something empowering about body confidence. My hope is that anyone listening to the song can feel attractive in their own skin and live their own lingerie model fantasy.”
