Financial Services Compensation Scheme

To celebrate Pride Month, Gaydio has teamed up with the Financial Services Compensation Scheme to hear why diversity + inclusion in the workplace is so important to their employees.

About the FSCS

The FSCS helps people get back on track by protecting them when authorised financial services firms fail. Since our launch in 2001, we’ve come to the aid of millions of people and paid out billions in compensation. We recognise the importance of creating an equitable, diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can succeed in achieving their personal and professional goals, recruiting and supporting colleagues from the widest possible most diverse pool of talent, irrespective of age, gender, race, sexual orientation or social background. At FSCS we are proud to be a diverse and welcoming employer being recognised as the 12th Most Inclusive Employer in the UK.

As an organisation, we are committed to creating an environment, where everyone can succeed and bring their whole selves to work. We are proud to have LGBTQ+ representation across our Board, Executive team and Senior Leadership population. We have an active LGBTQ+ network with openly out colleagues and allies who organise regular events, raise awareness and take part in fundraising activities.

This year we have committed to 50 places marching in Pride, alongside our regulatory family partners at the Bank of England, the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Conduct Authority. We also celebrate LGBTQ+ history month each year, with a number of activities for colleagues to get involved in, and regular updates on our intranet page to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ history, and notable figures from the LGBTQ+ community.

FSCS are founding members of the StandOUT network, which supports LGBTQ+ employees across the regulatory family within the financial services industry. As an organisation, we are committed to inclusive recruitment, and work with My G Work (a business community that aims to empower the LGBTQ+ community by providing members a safe space where they can connect with inclusive employers) to advertise our vacancies.

FSCS also partners with Positive East, a not-for-profit organisation that offers a comprehensive and holistic range of HIV support and prevention services; and our colleagues take part in the fundraising efforts each year as part of their Red Run. All of our policies are truly inclusive, including our parental leave which is 26 weeks of full pay, open to any new parents at FSCS, irrespective of gender of the employee, or how the child was welcomed into the family.

We are incredibly proud of our work in embedding an inclusive culture at FSCS, and we know that this directly and positively impacts our colleagues lived experiences. From our most recent People Survey (May 2022), our employees feel they genuinely belong (average score 84%), that they can be themselves at work (average score 87%) and that FSCS is an inclusive and caring employer (average score 91%).
