Brighton boy Adam shares his excitement in the run up to this years festival...
Brighton Pride Blowout!
Pride may be one massive gay party around many cities in the UK, however to many it is much more than that. I find to me it’s the celebration of my sexuality in contrast to the years I spent feeling I had to hide it. Pride is everyone who got bullied in their lives just for their sexuality telling their tormentors that they didn't beat them. This is why I love Pride so much, it’s not just about being gay, it’s about equality, being yourself and being happy with yourself!
Of course we’re missing the obvious thing here, Pride is FUN! It’s a massive gay party and who better to throw a party than the LGBT community?! The march starts at 11am and leaves from Madeira Drive (just by the pier) and that will make its way through town till it reaches Preston Park. This is where the fun ramps up even more, with live music by favourites such as Miss Dynamite, the MKS and many more - the official party is set to be a blow away this year!
However, this is not just the only party happening in town, oh no, Brighton never does half a party! There is a unofficial party at club Revenge on Friday the 2nd with Gaydio. Free entry before 10.30pm with a pass from Bar Revenge.
Revenge is also hosting the ‘Icons of Pride Party’ on Saturday and there are lots of other event and parties happening all across the weekend!
I personally can't wait - and find myself counting down the days, consistently picking up more little bits for my outfit as the days tick down! Brighton has always been a home to many LGBT people and Pride really is where they all come together and it’s so wonderful to be a part of. I have met so many people like myself - who have moved down to Brighton to be more accepted – it’s a fabulous place to live. I have made so many friends in the 10 months I have lived here and I hope to meet many of you during this pride to add to my collection of great friends!
I hope you all enjoy this Pride as much as I am going to and all I have left to say is ... Happy Pride!
